Condé Nast has found its new editor-in-chief for Teen Vogue to take over Lindsay Peoples Wagner’s former role — Axios reporter Alexi McCammond.

According to the media company, McCammond — an Illinois native who graduated from the University of Chicago — is known for her work as a political reporter who was leading the coverage behind Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.

“Alexi has the powerful curiosity and confidence that embodies the best of our next generation of leaders,” Anna Wintour — global editorial director of Vogue and chief content officer of Condé Nast — shared in a statement. “Her interest in fashion, wellness and important issues in the lives of the Teen Vogue audience and broad knowledge of business leaders, elected officials, influencers, photographers and filmmakers is unrivaled, and I’m so very pleased that she will be bringing her expertise and talents to our team.”

Within her new role, McCammond will be leading the editorial vision behind Teen Vogue’s digital, video and social platforms. Her new digital-only fashion title is known for frequently tackling political issues, especially when Peoples Wagner was head of the publication.

McCammond’s career in media first began as a freelancer for Cosmopolitan and later she transitioned to a news editor role for Bustle during the 2016 election.

She went on to join Axios in 2017 where she broke news on the presidential race, former President Trump, and the Democratic Party. Additionally, she extended her reporting to NBC and MSNBC as a contributor, and also sat down with elected officials for “Axios on HBO,” Condé Nast shares.

McCammond was also named the “Emerging Journalist of the Year” by the National Association of Black Journalists back in 2019.

“Teen Vogue is the place where the next generation of our culture’s biggest influencers want to be,” McCammond said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working with the team to build a unique community of ambitious, curious and fashion-forward young leaders and help lift their voices so they can become our next great leaders, thinkers and artists.”

McCammond’s appointment is set to take effect on March 24.
