All of the anxiety brought on by COVID-19 is raising a lot of awareness around mental health. Celebrities are doing their part to contribute in any way possible and now entertainer, businessman, and host Steve Harvey is kicking off his virtual mentoring program for young men.

The Steve Harvey Mentoring Program (SHMP) — sponsored by Harvey’s foundation — was designed to share and teach the principles of manhood, according to their website.

The uncertainties surrounding schools and returning to business, as usual, has presented some educational challenges as we now rely on virtual learning, but Harvey’s mentoring program wants to help combat those fears with his comforting virtual sessions.

“I know we’re all living in some unusual times during this coronavirus pandemic. To all of the frontline workers, I say thank you for all you’re doing. Y’all know how passionate I am about mentoring young men — especially those who are growing up without a father or male role model in their life,” said Harvey, as reported by Black Enterprise.

Following social distancing orders, Harvey pivoted his program’s efforts to online sessions in order to still be able to help young men across America.

“Usually I see some of the boys at my Steve Harvey Mentoring Program for Young Men. This is all part of a new thing I’ve been inspired to do, Mentoring Mondays—offering some guidance to these boys while they’re sheltering at home,” he said.

Harvey recently surprised his mentees during a”Mentoring Mondays” session with NFL veteran Ray Lewis who joined to share some encouraging words with the young men.

Outside of the virtual program, Harvey and his foundation mentors young boys year-round. The program — created in 2009 — annually selects fatherless teens ages 14–18, from a large pool of applicants residing in places all across the country.

Through their national and regional programs, the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation has been able to help over 3,000 families, according to Black Enterprise.

Harvey currently hosts his segment “Mentoring Mondays” on Facebook Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube at 4 p.m. PST and 7 p.m. EST every Monday.
