The number alone sparks up nostalgia for people who were fans of Soulja Boy and Sammie’s “Kiss Me thru the Phone.”

The 2008 hit reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, according to Billboard.

Listeners calling the popular phone number was one of the trends of the late 2000s. However, it appears it was bigger than just a trend but rather a lucrative marketing move for Soulja Boy.

During an interview with HipHopDX, the rapper claimed that fans calling and texting the number, which was his when he initially released the song, made him six figures each month.

“That number was like a fan line,” Soulja Boy explained. “So every time somebody called that number, I was getting paid off of that sh-t. It was like a subscription. You could text it or call it, so I was probably making like $100,000 a month off of that, just people calling that number.”

He continued to the outlet, “So probably after like two years, three years or something, the company that I had the number with, they shut down. So I guess once they shut down, somebody came and got the number. But I gotta get that number back though, for sure.”

Soulja Boy also shared a fun fact that he wanted to sing the catchy hook but reached out to Chris Brown instead, which fell through. Nonetheless, Sammie ended up recording it, and the rest is history.

The track went on to be Soulja Boy’s second biggest song after his debut, “Crank That (Soulja Boy),” which was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks. On Spotify alone, the song has over five hundred million streams, as of this writing.

“‘Kiss Me Thru the Phone,’ that song — so many f-cking streams,” he said. “It just went so many times platinum like yesterday or something. That’s like one of my biggest songs, too.”
