Scholarships are important; scholarships for black women are very, very important. Scholarships are what keep some students going when finances start to tear them apart. And black women should be entitled to financial assistance as well. 

Thanks to educational institutions, foundations, and organizations making it possible, there are more scholarships being made available to help Black women attend college. 

We’ve compiled a list of scholarships for black women that you can apply for.

KIA MOTORS AMERICA STEM/ SUSTAINABILITY

Kia Motors America in conjunction with UNCF provides up to $3000 need-based scholarship opportunities to students of color that major in any of the following disciplines: Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, or any other Environmental science courses provided that applicant has a minimum of cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and has completed a FAFSA and demonstrate unmet financial needs as verified by applicant’s institution.

MALCOLM X SCHOLARSHIP FOR ‘EXCEPTIONAL COURAGE’

Malcolm X Scholarship is directed towards black women that are enrolled in any one of the UNCF institutions. It is founded by Spike Lee to increase the awareness about the life and contributions of Malcolm X to the society. The award can be up to $4000.

Eligibility requirements: You must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA, you must be an undergraduate student, and finally, you must attend a university or a four-year college.

GOLDMAN SACHS FOR EXCELLENCE

Goldman Sachs Scholarship for Excellence is a scholarship opportunity for Black Women, Latino and Native American undergraduate students who are interested in the financial services industry. The award can be up to $10,000. 

Requirements are: you must have a minimum of 3.4 GPA and you must be involved in service for your campus or your community.

THE NATIONAL BLACK NURSES ASSOCIATIONS SCHOLARSHIPS

The National Black Nurses Associations (NBNA) awards grants, scholarships, and fellowships to black women interested in the field of nursing. The association has numerous scholarships available.

Black women currently enrolled in a four-year nursing program can apply at https://www.nbna.org

BLACK WOMEN IN SISTERHOOD (BISA)

BISA scholarship is targeted towards disenfranchised and economically disadvantaged women, black women, entering college or a university. They will provide financial support, mentoring, books, and on-site-visits, among many other things. To qualify, you must have a strong academic background and show potential for academic growth.
