The musician-turned-business mogul will return to the stage for the first time in seven years to perform at Super Bowl LVII, and in true Rih Rih fashion, she’s pulling out all of the marketing stops ahead of the big game.

The Big Game

During a press conference on Thursday (Feb. 9), she opened up about the career journey that led her to this big moment.

“It’s a long way from home, right? It’s a beautiful journey that I’m on, and I could’ve never guessed that I would’ve made it here, so it’s a celebration of that,” Rihanna told Apple Music host Nadeska Alexis “And I’m really excited to have Barbados on the Super Bowl stage.”

How Much Do Artists Get Paid For Their Performance?

While most people assume that artists get a hefty check for performing during one of the year’s most significant events, the truth is they do not get compensated for their performance.

According to Esquire, performers aren’t paid for their halftime show due to the NFL’s policy. Instead, the league reportedly covers production costs and any travel expenses.

Rihanna's Super Bowl Merch

Although the league won’t be writing her any checks, Rihanna is ensuring that she sees a profit ahead of Super Bowl LVII.

In January, she teamed up with Mitchell & Ness for a new merch collection, which includes oversized t-shirts, a jacket, and hoodies that commemorate the Barbados native’s big moment.

Each piece includes Rihanna’s famous football photo that was used to announce her performance last year. They also include a quote from the “Diamonds” crooner that says, “If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that we can fix this world together. We can’t do it divided, I can’t emphasize that enough.”

Additionally, the marketing spots for her brands like Fenty Beauty include intricate details that nod to her big night.

Her Business Mentality

It’s clear she is very hands-on when it comes to anything she is a part of, and she admitted during the press conference that this is no different.

“At the end of the day, if it flops or it flies, my name has to stand by that,” said Rihanna. “And so I really get involved with every aspect of anything that I do, whether it’s the Super Bowl, whether it’s a makeup product, whether it’s Savage lingerie, like, whatever I do, I’m that annoying girl who’s going to talk about everything. I want to see the copy on the website. I want to name every lipstick that I make. I care about it. I love it, I really do.”
