A new round of funding has been raised to invest in the health of African businesses.
PaidHR
In 2020, CEO Seye Bandele and Chief Technology Officer Lekan Omotosho co-founded an HR management platform designed to support African businesses and their workers. According to a news release, the platform, named PaidHR, automates local and cross-border payroll in 49 currencies and has tools such as Earned Wage Access, which allows employees to receive a portion of their payment before payday. PaidHR can calculate taxes and pensions as well as file with the appropriate government agency. Additionally, it can set up benefits for medical insurance, pensions, housing, and more, its website states.
“We’ve always been driven by a simple yet powerful idea: that managing your team and payroll shouldn’t be a source of stress, but a catalyst for growth and well-being,” the company stated in the news release.
$1.8M Raise Led By Accion Venture Lab
PaidHr, which launched in Nigeria, has expanded its efforts to Kenya and South Africa, reaching over 250 businesses in industries such as logistics, retail, manufacturing, and banking. In 2024, the platform processed more than $18 million in salaries and onboarded at least 20,000 employees onto its platform. Now, the platform is being supported with a $1.8 million raise in a seed round led by Accion Venture Lab with participation from Zrosk, Chui Ventures, and Zedcrest Capital.
The funding will be used to grow the team, scale operations across Africa, drive ongoing innovation, and launch new products that enhance HR solutions.
“African SMEs are the backbone of the continent’s workforce and a critical engine for inclusive economic growth. Yet many still lack the tools to manage HR, payroll, and employee financial well-being effectively. That’s where PaidHR comes in,” Amee Parbhoo, managing partner at Accion Venture Lab, said on LinkedIn. “They’ve built an all-in-one, SME-tailored platform to manage HR and payroll, combined with powerful tools that help employees improve their financial health. From integrated multi-currency wallets, to credit and savings plans, to earned wage access (EWA), PaidHR is redefining how small businesses and their employees thrive together. We’re proud to lead their seed round and partner with Seye Bandele, Lekan Omotosho, and the entire PaidHR team on this journey!”
Bandele commented:
“We are building HR management for the African context, and this funding allows us to scale our vision, expand our reach, and deliver even more value to our clients. With the support of Accion Venture Lab and our returning investors, we are well-positioned to help businesses grow and scale more effectively across borders.”
