It’s no secret that Jamie Foxx has made a name for himself in the industry. However, a few pages from his book could have told a different story if it wasn’t for a major figure in the industry.
During a conversation with Access Hollywood, Jamie Foxx reveals he had become an avid partygoer following the success of his portrayal of Ray Charles. Foxx’s performance would go on to receive an Academy Award for Best Actor and the celebration didn’t stop after his winning night.

Thankfully, Oprah Winfrey stepped in to give Foxx an intervention.
“She said ‘You’re blowing it,'” Foxx told Access Hollywood. “Because we were just out hanging, we weren’t taking the moment serious. She said ‘I want to take you somewhere so you can understand the significance of what you’re doing.'”
That “somewhere” ended up being the home of Quincy Jones, who showed some tough love to Foxx.
“You’ve done a great job on Ray but you’ve f-cked everything else up now. You got to buckle down, baby,” Jones said, according to Access Hollywood.
The industry’s best are only a phone call away if you’re Winfrey and she used that to her advantage to also connect Foxx with Sidney Poitier, who reminded the “Ray” actor of where to keep his attention throughout his career.
“Now, are you ready to meet the person that I’ve brought you here to talk with?’ And it was Sidney Poitier. He says ‘I saw you one time. You were at a party. Do you remember that?’ I was like, yes. Tears. And he says, ‘When I watched your performance, it made me grow artistically two inches… And I give something to you. I give you responsibility that from now on throughout your career you’ll be responsible for what you give and what you show.’ And I have done as best I can to sort of live up to that, because it is very important,” Foxx said, according to Access Hollywood.
