HealthStack and National Medical Fellowships are launching an ongoing partnership focused on AI education and upskilling for current and future health care leaders.

AI is already part of medicine. Training has to keep up.

AI in health care is no longer theoretical. According to the American Medical Association, 81% of physicians now report awareness or use of AI in their professional work, more than double the share incorporating AI use cases when the organization first surveyed physicians in 2023.

But adoption and preparedness are not the same thing. In the AMA’s 2024 survey, 84% of physicians said receiving proper training and education on AI tools was important to facilitating adoption. And in its 2026 research, 88% of physicians expressed at least some concern about AI-related skill loss, including 70% who were very or somewhat concerned about skill loss among medical students and residents being trained today.

That creates a clear challenge: AI is becoming part of how medicine is practiced faster than every current and future physician is being prepared to use it.

HealthStack and National Medical Fellowships want to help close that gap.

Bringing AI expertise and medical talent together

For 80 years, National Medical Fellowships has worked to strengthen the medical talent pipeline, expanding access to medical education and supporting students and physicians throughout their careers.

HealthStack is focused on a different but increasingly connected challenge: how do we prepare the health care workforce for the technologies transforming their industry?

Through HealthStack, AFROTECH™, and AI Edge, we have been building programming and communities designed to help professionals understand emerging technologies, develop practical AI skills, and engage directly with the people building and implementing these tools.

The partnership brings those areas of expertise together.

Building AI fluency across both communities

The HealthStack and NMF partnership will span both communities, beginning with four initiatives.

  • Morgan DeBaun, Founder and CEO of Blavity Inc., will speak to the NMF community about AI, emerging technology, and the skills health care leaders will need as these tools become more integrated into their work.
  • Michellene Davis, Esq., President and CEO of National Medical Fellowships, will join the HealthStack Conference, bringing NMF’s expertise in medical talent and workforce development into a broader conversation about AI and the future of health care.
  • A named cohort of NMF scholars will attend the HealthStack Conference, giving emerging physicians direct access to technologists, clinicians, founders, researchers, executives, and companies working at the intersection of health and technology.
  • Their participation will continue beyond the conference through AfroTech Insider membership and year-round access to AI Edge training.
  • In 2027, HealthStack and NMF will expand that work by presenting an education module AI for Clinicians training for practicing and early-career physicians across both networks.
