Marlon Wayans Never Got The Chance To Star In 'Batman Returns,' Yet Still Receives Residual Checks

Wayans was cast to star in “Batman Returns:” Back in the 1990s, Wayans was originally cast to star in director Tim Burton’s adaptation of Robin for the 1992 “Batman Returns” film.

Wayans was even compensated for the role, but he never got the chance to bring Robin to light because producers removed the character from the script.

Why Wayans was removed from the film: The reasoning is believed to be due to an array of new characters that were already being introduced in the film such as Catwoman, The Penguin, and Max Shreck. The addition of Robin may have made convoluted the film.

Screenrant reports Burton was still considering Wayans when it was time for the threequel. However, Wayans remained an afterthought when Burton was replaced by director Joel Schumacher. Instead, they cast Chris O’Donnell, who took on the prized role.

In the end, it wasn’t a complete loss for Wayans because he still receives residual checks to this day for “Batman Returns.”

Although the actor has never confirmed, according to Cinema Blend, Wayans received a payout of $100,000.

“I was actually supposed to play Robin, in Batman Returns, about 15 years ago. But there was too many characters. I was cast, I was paid and everything. I still get residual checks. Tim Burton didn’t wind up doing three, Joel Schumacher did it and he had a different vision for who Robin was. So he hired Chris O’ Donnell,” Wayans explained, according to Gizmodo.

Wayans was still in the early stages of his career during this time.

Following what could have been his superhero debut, he still went on to make quite the name for himself, thanks to the “Scary Movie” films and “White Chicks” — which earned over $113 million worldwide on a budget of $37 million — ET Online reports.
