Tyler James Williams plays Gregory Eddie in the ABC mockumentary sitcom “Abbott Elementary,” but that isn’t the only role he’s known for in the television industry.
In 2005, Williams shot to fame as a lead character on “Everybody Hates Chris,” a show that he credits for jumpstarting his career.
Williams earned an impressive $250,000 per episode, according to MsMojo, making him one of the highest-paid child actors of all time.
“15 years ago this little show premiered on a network that no longer exists. It kickstarted my and several other careers of very talented people. I’m forever grateful for that,” Williams said in a celebratory post on Instagram.

After the show ended in 2009, Williams and the show became pop culture fixtures. The show gained even more popularity after it became syndicated.
While Williams was clearly successful in the comedy genre, he decided to “veer” away to pursue serious roles. So, he took on gigs on “The Walking Dead” and “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.”
Still, his stance wasn’t fixed. It only took the right show for him to return to his roots.
“I felt like at the time, network comedy specifically had gotten very broad,” Williams explained in an interview on the Tamron Hall Show. “It was a lot of people fighting really hard to get a joke out, and that’s not how I like to do comedy. I like to keep it pretty grounded and play to the real of it all. So, I kind of was not interested at the time I went off, I did some great drama stuff and some interesting indie stuff. Then, when Quinta came to me with this, I was like, this feels like the perfect excuse to come back into people’s living rooms.”
There’s no doubt that this match was made in heaven. Brunson and Williams both received Golden Globes for their work on “Abbott Elementary.” Williams took home the prize for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy.

In 2023, “Abbott Elementary” also helped Williams snag a Screen Actors Guild Award, an NAACP Image Award, and a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.
However, those are in addition to his past awards for other work.
Today, Williams is worth $5 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
