The Roots’ leap from music into film and TV has turned out more than favorable.

At the Academy Awards in March 2022, The Roots member Questlove won an Oscar for “Best Documentary Feature” as the director of “Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised),” which told the story of the Harlem Cultural Festival in 1969, according to Billboard. 

The critically acclaimed documentary was under his and Black Thought’s Two One Five Entertainment. Now, with the help of a leading content studio, the duo is set to further tell untold stories.

Variety reports The North Road Company has acquired a “significant stake” in Two One Five Entertainment.

“Building our production company Two One Five has been a major priority and the next chapter of creative evolution for Tarik and I,” Questlove shared, per the outlet. “Although we’ve had success thus far, finding an investor and strategic partner like North Road will have an immediate impact on our business, as their superior production capabilities will help us significantly increase our output.”

He continued, “Additionally, the capital they are committing provides us the flexibility to independently fund creative ideas, grow our executive team and truly scale the business.”

Founded by Peter Chernin, The North Road Company is set to fund Two One Five Entertainment’s future film, TV, and other creative projects, the outlet details. Additionally, the company will support Questlove and Black Thought in the expansion of their scripted content.

Coming up for The Roots’ company is a documentary directed by Questlove that tells the story of Sly and the Family Stone, which will be streamed on Hulu.
