With the holidays right around the corner, Meek Mill is in the season of giving for his city.

On Dec. 14, the rapper announced that he will be donating $500,000 worth of Christmas gifts to Philadelphia families in need. Joining him in supporting the free event, taking place on Dec. 19, are Philadelphia 76ers partner Michael Rubin, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and Roc Nation, according to TMZ.

According to Meek Mill, he and the DreamChasers are going bigger than ever for Philly — four times that is.

“We stepping BIGGER than ever this year for the youth of the city!” he wrote via Instagram prior to the official announcement.

The Holiday Giveaway

Holiday gifts for families will include MacBook Air laptops, Amazon Fire HD tablets, bikes and helmets, video game gift cards, board games, winter coats, dolls, play sets, playing cards, gift cards and more.

Meek Mill is stepping further into the holiday spirit by also donating $30,000 to the Philadelphia chapter of Twelve Days of Christmas, a volunteer organization that helps provide donations to less fortunate families during the holidays.

REFORM Alliance Night

As an extension of their holiday giving, Meek Mill and Rubin held an event with their organization, REFORM Alliance, along with the 76ers. On Dec. 15, the co-founders hosted a VIP experience for more than 25 children who have been negatively impacted by an unjust probation system, according to information shared with AfroTech.

The special night included celebrity surprises from artists such as Lil Baby, a private dinner, a holiday package of 76ers fan gear from Fanatics, and a suite and courtside view of the 76ers vs. Miami Heat game.

Philly Santa

Meek Mill has held a consecutive record of holding giveaways for his community. In 2020, he kept his streak alive despite the the restrictions of the pandemic by delivering holiday gifts to 35 Philadelphia families affected by the criminal justice system, along with a special video call.

“It’s been a tough year for all of us, but through all the ups and downs, I’ll always do my part to support and give back to the Philly community that raised me,” Meek Mill told Complex. “I remember not having much growing up, so it’s important to use my platform to give back, especially to the families trying to provide for their kids while also dealing with the criminal justice system.”

Giveaway Location

Now, Meek Mill gets to give back to his city in person again. The official location for the giveaway has yet to be announced, but past giveaways have been held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center in North Philadelphia.
