Maverick Carter has a new mission on his hands with the Red Sox Foundation.

In 2021, Carter became a part-owner of the baseball team alongside his business partner LeBron James. Fast forward to less than a year later, and Carter has been appointed to the Foundation’s Board of Directors, according to a press release.

The New Role

The press release shares that Carter will “help develop and achieve the Foundation’s strategic goals and mission of improving lives throughout New England in the areas of health, recreation, and education.”

“Empowerment is at the center of everything I do, whether that be in business, family or philanthropy,” he said in a statement. “It’s an honor for me to join the Red Sox Foundation’s Board of Directors and have the opportunity to help inspire and empower families and communities in Boston and beyond.”

Fenway Sports Group

Carter becoming a Fenway Sports Group (FSG) partner stands as a historical moment in time, as previously reported AfroTech, but his ties to the company run deep — since 2010 to be exact. His FSG introduction was through a strategic partnership with LRMR Ventures, which he helped establish.

“For the past decade, I have had the privilege of working closely with Mav and have seen firsthand how he incorporates community and service into every aspect of his work,” said Red Sox Foundation Chairman Tom Werner. “In addition to his incredible business acumen, his experience in sports philanthropy and athlete empowerment will be invaluable in how we continue to grow the programs and vision of the Red Sox Foundation. We are fortunate to have his talent and wisdom and look forward to deepening his connection to the Red Sox and FSG family.”

Another Day, Another Board

The philanthropist’s new board appointment is another addition to his longstanding work. His roster includes the LeBron James Family Foundation, Live Nation Entertainment and  Equinox Group. Carter is also on the Advisory Council for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture and Walmart’s Opportunity Leadership Council.
