Student-athletes are tapping into using their influence for the greater good.
Elon University football player and TikToker Jon Seaton used his NIL deal with Outback Steakhouse to support Fighting Pretty — a nonprofit that provides care packages for women battling cancer — according to a press release shared with AfroTech.
On Feb. 2, the defensive lineman partnered with the food chain to hold a charity event, where Strength and Beauty Kits — customized to encourage cancer patients — were built for over 500 women. Additionally, Fighting Pretty accepted donations at the event.
The kits are set to be delivered to hospitals and clinics across the U.S. including the Ourisman Breast Center, Latino Network, and more, the press release notes.
Additionally, there were over 50 students and local community members alongside Seaton for the cause.
In October 2022, it was announced in a press release that Seaton was one of the athletes signed to Outback Steakhouse’s “Steak It To The House” campaign with a goal to serve the community. Braelon Allen, AJ Henning, and Kendall Milton are also on the roster.
The “TeamMATES” helped donate catered meals to Fighting Pretty, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fond du Lac, the Boys & Girls Club of Athens, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan in November and December of 2022.
Chase Griffin is another college athlete who has been helping others.
As previously reported by AfroTech, the UCLA Bruins star launched NIL For Good, an initiative that gives cash donations from each NIL deal to community organizations. For 2022, Griffin announced that he was able to donate over $22,000.
“This quarter I am focusing my efforts on the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank Backpack Program,” Griffin shared in a LinkedIn post. “This program provides meals to LA school kids so they do not go hungry over the weekend when they do not have access to school meals.”
