Earning income for oneself is a win, but it’s an even bigger win when the wealth is spread to others.

NIL deals have greatly benefited student-athletes since the rules were updated. However, UCLA Bruins’ Chase Griffin is using the funds to make an impact in the community.

After launching NIL For Good, an initiative that gives cash donations from each NIL deal to community organizations, the college quarterback announced that he was able to donate over $22,000 in 2022.

The recipients included LA Regional Food Bank Backpack Program, LA Afterschool All-Stars, GoFundMe College Charity Challenge Winner, Be The Match Bone Marrow Registry, Move United, Hutto Education Foundation, Round Rock Serving Center, UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, and UCLA Day of Giving.

“This quarter I am focusing my efforts on the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank Backpack Program,” Griffin shared in a LinkedIn post. “This program provides meals to LA school kids so they do not go hungry over the weekend when they do not have access to school meals.”

In 2022, Griffin became the NIL Summit’s first-ever male athlete of the year after racking up endorsements and community service partnerships, Sports Illustrated reported. So far, he has had advertisement campaigns with Degree, Shell, Discord, and Boost Mobile.

“This award recognizes the male student-athletes that have exhibited the best use of their Name, Image, and Likeness,” NIL Summit described, according to the outlet. “Judges will consider student-athletes that have best leveraged their NIL across multiple activations, platforms and campaigns to create maximum impact for their partners.”

What’s more, the outlet notes that Griffin’s NIL deals have doubled as either charity fundraisers or amplifiers for awareness about social justice issues in Los Angeles, as well as other cities.
