In 2018, Marvel’s “Black Panther” had the world in a proverbial chokehold. Black children and adults everywhere were crossing their arms proudly, exclaiming, “Wakanda, forever!” A significant part of this cinematic magic and influence was the performance of Oscar-nominated actor Chadwick Boseman.

Sadly succumbing to colon cancer, Boseman passed away in August 2020. But without a living will, his estate was left in limbo. Almost two years later, Boseman’s estate has been settled.

Family First

As reported by Shadow and Act, Boseman’s $2.3 million estate will be evenly split between his wife and parents. Although the actor’s funds are uniformly divided, Taylor Simone Ledward-Boseman (Chadwick’s widow) is in charge of the estate. During the settlement, she asked the court to evenly distribute the seven-figure amount between Boseman’s parents and her.

In preparation for the estate settlement, Ledward-Boseman filed account documents laying out the details of residuals that were taken in since Boseman passed away. According to Radar Online, the evenly divided $2.3 million is the remaining amount after all of Boseman’s bills were paid.

In the accounting report obtained by Radar Online, Ledward-Boseman was reimbursed $47,000 that covered costs related to Boseman’s funeral, a mausoleum in Boseman’s home state of South Carolina, and additional mausoleums for Boseman’s parents to lie next to him.

Holding Down The Legacy

Boseman and his wife began dating before his 2016 diagnosis. Since his passing, Ledward-Boseman has represented her husband and accepted honors on behalf of the “21 Bridges” actor.

“He was able to give himself over fully in every moment, to be totally present in his own life and in the lives of people he became,” Ledward-Boseman stated during the Gotham Awards.

The Boseman Estate

Before the final amount of $2.3 million was revealed, court documents showed that Boseman’s estate had a total value of $4 million, including several residual checks from Boseman’s past projects.

There were no documents of owed real-estate taxes associated with the Boseman estate. Additionally, all California income taxes were up to date at the time of the court filing.
