Lamar Odom is supporting people who are facing a battle that he has experienced firsthand.
Following the scare of his near-fatal drug overdose in 2015, the former NBA star has invested in and launched Odom Wellness Treatment Centers in California, TMZ Sports reports.
Odom joined forces with Dontae Ralston and Dennis Martinez to acquire the facilities in San Diego, El Cajon, and Lemon Grove.
The treatment program at the three centers is set to provide restoration through detox, inpatient care, outpatient programming, and housing, according to the company’s website.
“God saved me, so I can save others,” Odom shared in an Instagram post.
A representative for Odom shared with TMZ Sports that — under Odom Wellness Treatment Centers — there are two men’s detox and residential treatment homes and one women’s residential treatment home.
As Odom had a tribe around him while battling addiction, he aims to be “highly involved” in supporting others in their journey toward sobriety, which he says is “more satisfying than people telling me what a great basketball player that I was.”
Odom’s near-fatal overdose caused numerous health complications such as kidney failure, heart attacks, and multiple strokes. As previously reported by AfroTech, he stacked up medical bills that led him to sell his two NBA championship rings. Now, he is helping others manage their medical costs with his facilities.
“When God had saved me from that accident, I was trying to find my purpose—and I think I may have found it,” Odom told TMZ Live. “I know I have found it.”
He continued, “For me to have rehabilitation centers and wellness centers is a big deal. I want to put them everywhere. Drugs are bad everywhere.”
The outlet notes Odom’s rep revealed that Odom Wellness Treatment Centers is working to open two more centers in San Diego and Calabasas in the near future.
