It’s been a little over two years since Kobe Bryant tragically left us, but his legacy is strong! From continued brand partnerships to children across the world yelling “Kobe” as they attempt a shot – the impact Bryant had is forever imprinted on people’s hearts.
With such a positive influence on the world of sports and beyond, coming across Kobe-related memorabilia is a premium. According to TMZ Sports, a Kobe Bryant game-worn jersey just sold for $2.73 million at SCP Auctions.
Authenticity And Verfications
The jersey that went up for auction with SCP Auctions is the first jersey from a playoff appearance that was publicly up for sale. David Kohler of SCP Auctions estimated the rare jersey would sell between $3 million and $5 million.
Once sold at the final price slightly under the estimated amount, its authenticity was verified and photo-matched by independent authenticators.
Based on the auction listing, Bryant wore that particular jersey at least five times during the regular season and twice during the 1997 NBA playoffs.
The 1997 playoff appearance was during Bryant’s rookie year when the Utah Jazz eliminated the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the West Conference semifinals.
The Definition Of The Black Mamba
Coined as the Black Mamba, Bryant did not let the first-year elimination dictate the rest of his career. He went on to become a five-time NBA champion, two-time scoring champion, two-time Finals MVP, four-time NBA All-Star MVP, and the 2007-2008 overall NBA MVP.
Since his passing in 2020, Kobe Bryant memorabilia has been selling for record prices. A rare 1997-1998 sophomore season card featuring Bryant was sold in a private estate sale for a whopping $2 million, as previously reported by AfroTech.
