Issa Rae proudly represents her home state as a powerhouse actress, producer, and entrepreneur.

The Los Angeles, CA, native, well known for her rise from “Awkward Black Girl” to “Insecure” continues to stretch herself in new ways. One of Them Days,” featuring SZA and Keke Palmer, made its way to the big screen in 2025, marking Rae’s first feature film released under her production company, Hoorae. According to Variety and Collider, the film made $22.2 million after its first two weekends, including the extended Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Just a few months earlier, Rae made a new dent in the hospitality space, opening Somerville in South Los Angeles, a restaurant offering a “progressive American dining experience.” This marked her second food and drinks venture, as she had expanded Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen to the city in 2023, per Forbes.

Rae has conquered several industries, including spirits (Viarae Prosecco) and hair care (Sienna Naturals), and now her eyes are set on sports. In a press release, it was confirmed she is a club partner in San Diego Football Club (SDFC) after joining its ownership group in partnership with Pave Investments. The group includes World Cup-winning footballer Juan Mata, retired U.S. Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, and San Diego Padres All-Star Manny Machado, a founding partner.
Rae views her participation in the San Diego Football Club as an “incredible honor.”
“Joining San Diego FC’s ownership group is an incredible honor, and I am thrilled to be part of building something that represents and uplifts this vibrant community,” Rae expressed in the press release. “Soccer is a universal language that has the power to bring people together, and I look forward to contributing to San Diego FC’s journey as we make history in MLS.”

SDFC CEO Tom Penn commented:
