IBM Field Chief Technology Officer Mike Arbrouet reveals the traditional industry advice he refused to follow.
Arbrouet is a University of West Florida alumnus with a master’s degree in cybersecurity. He earned his degree in 2021, but his technology career dates back to 2005 when he worked as a web developer and technical support specialist for ecurity engineering, software development security, and more.
He also has 23 certifications and licenses. Today, his career has led him to IBM, where he began as a security architect. In a statement to AFROTECH™, he shares how his upbringing has shaped his approach in the industry.
“I grew up in a big family of mostly boys. I learned early the value of sharing, toughness, and fair competition. That shaped how I lead — push hard, stay fair, keep people at the center,” he explained.
Arbrouet also reveals how he rose up the ranks to become a leader in technology, speaking up even when he was not the most qualified person in the room.
“The old advice was to ‘wait until you’re the expert before you speak up.’ I went the other way. I shared ideas, asked questions, and took on challenges before I had all the answers. It opened doors to mentors, opportunities, and growth I would’ve missed if I’d waited for perfect,” he said.
