Even when it comes to promoting brands on social media, a contract is still a contract. Tekashi 6ix9ine is the latest celebrity to get taught that lesson. In addition to his 2018 arrest for racketeering and firearm possession, 6ix9ine can now add a Fashion Nova lawsuit to his legal woes.
According to Complex, the fashion retailer is filing a lawsuit against 6ix9ine for failing to promote their brand. Allegedly, 6ix9ine received a $225,000 advance and agreed to promote the company via social media and in his music. The fashion store is seeking $2.25 million for the unfulfilled agreement between the two parties made in October 2018.
Just two weeks after 6ix9ine received the advance, he was arrested and jailed making it impossible for him to follow through with the agreement and promote Fashion Nova.
However, Fashion Nova doesn’t seem to care about the rapper’s legal battles. The company says they were unaware of his criminal background and 6ix9ine’s team did not communicate with them about his charges. Fashion Nova also reports that 6ix9ine agreed to pay the advance back, but never did.
Going forward, Fashion Nova doesn’t see a future with 6ix9ine as a brand ambassador due to his now tainted image.
The rapper is reportedly said to be released from prison on August 2, 2020.
