What started out as an interaction over Instagram may eventually turn into Drake adding a restaurant to his list of business ventures.

Following the news of Randy’s Patties — a Jamaican restaurant in Toronto — shutting down on Feb. 26, the rapper showed great interest in coming in to save the day for his hometown’s food favorite.

According to Complex Canada, eTalk anchor Tyrone Edwards announced the closing on his Instagram page, where locals dropped comments regarding their deep disappointment. Many online mentioned the news to Drake, in which he went on to chime in with his ambitious query for the iconic Jamaican establishment.

“I’ll buy Randy’s right now,” the longtime supporter openly declared via Instagram.

His response resulted in a wave of Randy’s Patties fans backing his statement, along with Edwards’ reply: “Soon link you, trying to get ahold of someone over there.”

Although Drake’s Instagram comment erupted in much praise, there aren’t any further details yet that solidifies that he will actually move forward with the move.

Randy's Patties

Prior to their recent announcement, Randy’s Patties had a run of over 40 years in Toronto. blogTO reports that their closure is due to multiple factors including the impact of COVID.

“Due to a variety of issues, including years of endless Metrolinx construction, 2 years of COVID, labour shortages, and aging owners, we have decided to close our doors and re-evaluate our next steps going forward,” the restaurant wrote in an official statement via Instagram.

Drake's Business Moves

More information on whether or not Drake is serious hasn’t been announced but based on his endeavors as a businessman it wouldn’t be far-fetched.

In 2021, AfroTech has reported on his investments in Dave’s Hot Chicken and Daring Foods, a plant-based chicken company.

Could Randy’s Patties be his next project? Looks like Toronto natives will have to wait and see.
