DJ Khaled’s sneaker release with the Jordan Brand reportedly made history in more ways than one.

Back in November 2022, the music producer and decades-long sneakerhead launched his debut sneaker with the footwear giant for the We The Best x Air Jordan 5s, per REVOLT. The outlet detailed that DJ Khaled’s sneaker, “Sail,” were inspired by his hometown of Miami, FL.

“Its upper is dressed completely in a smooth milky leather that calls to be touched while the midsoles feature Miami-esque spring colors like violet and powder blue speckled with yellow,” the outlet described. “A luxurious satin inner makes for a smooth slide-in of the foot, and 3M reflective finishes can be found on the top of the tongue and at the windows.”

Described by DJ Khaled as “the Coconuts,” the shoes were also etched with his famous line, “WE THE BEST.” The sneakers sold for $225 on the Nike SNKRS app and select retailers when it was initially released.

Nearly a year after the sneakers dropped, DJ Khaled has let the public in on how successful the collaboration was.

During Complex’s “Sneaker Shopping,” he shared that his sneakers made history.

“The We The Best 5s, the Jordan 5s, was the biggest release number-wise in Jordan collaboration history,” DJ Khaled told host Joe La Puma. “Do your research and get to it ASAP.”

“We’re talking numbers because when I put these [Crimson Bliss] out and the Coconuts, I wanted to make sure we did a worldwide thing. And we did it big. Any Jordan release is gonna be the biggest. I was just excited to make history for my first sneaker release,” DJ Khaled said.

The interview included a snippet of Reggie Saunders, Jordan’s VP of entertainment marketing, confirming DJ Khaled’s claim.

“Khaled made brand history,” Saunders said. “This is the largest launch of any collaborator we’ve ever worked with.”

DJ Khaled went on to reveal that he’s working on a new sneaker and has been in talks with Michael Jordan, Saunders, and the rest of the Jordan team.

He has yet to share a release date for the upcoming collaboration.
