The talk surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs allegedly not paying his artists has been circulating for quite some time now, but he’s finally clearing the air.
Recently, AfroTech reported that Mase accused Diddy of not giving him proper compensation or credit while he was signed with Bad Boy Records.
“I felt like I did more than I got credit for, more than I got paid for. I never got paid what I was worth, and I never got the respect I was worth. So the disdain is like, ‘You’re tryna keep me here, n-gga?’ I’m not here. All my peers is up here. All my peers are bosses,” Mase said on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game Podcast.
However, while appearing on The Breakfast Club, Diddy said that Mase’s claims were false and alleged that he has never stolen from any artists.
“I am here to be a leader and to give some direction. If you think that I’m a scumbag that will ever steal anything, my name is Diddy — Sean Combs. I never took nothing from nobody a day in my life. All I’ve ever given is opportunity and more money than a person was making,” Diddy said.
Diddy also said that he does not owe Mase a dime and that he believes the “Feel So Good” rapper actually owes him $3 million.
“I did one album with Mase, one album. How much money do you think I owe this guy? One album and then he became a fake pastor and went and conned people. And then y’all going to let him throw dirt on the God’s name. I wrote each and everyone one and each and everybody could come and step up. Bring your receipts, but I’m not playing. I’m back outside and I’m fighting back for us and I’m also doing a little fighting back for me,” Diddy said on The Breakfast Club.
Charlamagne tha God then threw out one artist, for example, as a ballpark of what artists could possibly owe Diddy.
“How much money does somebody like a Mase owe you?” the host asked Diddy.
“Mase owes me $3 million. That’s facts. I got the receipt,” Diddy responded.
While Diddy only directly responded to Mase’s claims, there’s a host of other artists that claim he owes them money, which he says he plans to address in the near future.
“When you get to a certain point and the money is running low, you gotta run this hustle to try to find somebody to blame,” he said during The Breakfast Club.
“I have all my receipts, and so we are going to do a special, a retrospective, with all the artists and we are going to get this narrative clear because it comes from different tactics when people want to get outta contract,” Diddy added.
The mogul also said some claims could be true. However, it could have been due to a business slip up outside of his reach. Therefore, he wants to end the rumors and he will fight to preserve his legacy at all costs.
“A lot of people that speak on this, y’all don’t know the business. Y’all don’t know what y’all are talking about. So, it’s going to be a teaching moment of love, because it is important I feel. Fight for your reputation. I’mma fight for my reputation. I’mma fight for the honorable man I am. The righteous king that I am. I’m not perfect,” Diddy said.
He continued: “It could have been an accountant mess up on this one or that one or things that happened in the business. But me actually, I’m running a hustle to get money. I started delivering papers at 12-years-old. I was a millionaire when I was 19. [Do] you know what I’m saying? And, so I will be making sure that the truth comes out because that’s not going down in my legacy.”
Diddy also said that he still has love for Mase and also understands the pitfalls of business can certainly leave artists in the dark. So, he claims he will rightfully correct past wrongs if this is the case.
“Anybody thinks I owe ’em something, show me the receipt. You’ll get paid in 24 hours because sometimes there’s accounting problems,” Diddy said.
