Charlamagne Tha God is venturing into late night territory with his new gig.

According to a press release, the multi-media mogul is teaming up with TV vet Stephen Colbert to create and produce a new weekly late-night show on Comedy Central called “Tha God’s Honest Truth with Lenard ‘Charlamagne’ McKelvey” this fall.

The weekly half hour late-night series will feature “Charlamagne’s culturally fluent take on social issues in a variety of deep dives, sketches, and social experiments that deftly unpacks the most pressing topics permeating politics and culture,” the press release reports.

Known for his unfiltered opinions and unapologetic, comedic personality, Charlamagne brings with him a fresh and thought-provoking perspective to break new ground in the media world via his new late night slot.

“This is one of those moments where I can show you better than I can tell you,” said Charlamagne in a statement. “This is the third talk show Chris McCarthy has done with me and those shows prepared me for this opportunity. My South Carolina brethren Stephen Colbert is the ultimate cosign in the late night space and he wouldn’t cosign no bullshit! We are going to win an Emmy next year for best lighting direction I can feel it!!!”

Charlamagne shares a long history with MTV Entertainment Group President and CEO Chris McCarthy as well as Colbert that has prepped him for this next chapter in his career. His new venture also marks the return of Colbert to Comedy Central since “the Colbert Report” ended in 2014. His collaborators have all expressed excitement for what he’s about to do next and agree across the board that he’s poised to make a powerful shift in this new space.

“Charlamagne is one of the most culturally significant voices of our time,” McCarthy said in a statement. “His thought provoking and uninhibited observations both get under peoples skin and open their minds which is why we are thrilled to be doing this show with him and equally thrilled to welcome back the Dean of Late Night to Comedy Central, Mr. Stephen Colbert.”

Colbert also echoed this sentiment sharing that he “looks forward to all the ways in which the fearless, peerless Charlamagne is going to change the game.”

Since dominating at Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne has been blazing a trail in the media and entertainment industry that has not only turned himself into a powerhouse figure, but also a vessel paving the way for many other Black and brown creatives to follow in his path.

Over the last year, he’s teamed up with iHeartMedia to launch his own podcast network to amplify Black voices, established a literary imprint for Black talent and even launched a foundation to elevate conversations around mental health.

It’s safe to say the esteemed media personality is on a mission to take over the media space and his new late night show is just another stepping stone toward that goal.

“Tha God’s Honest Truth with Lenard ‘Charlamagne’ McKelvey” is set to debut Friday, Sept. 17 at 10pm ET/PT.
