Carmelo Anthony Solidifies His Hollywood Plans With Launch of Global Content Company

NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony is digging his heels into the Hollywood game with his latest announcement.

According to an exclusive with Variety, Anthony reveals that he’s launching his very own global content company called “Creative 7” — named after his famed New York Knicks jersey number he wore from 2011 to 2017 — to bring his media projects to life.

“Storytelling brings people together, and it can serve as a vehicle for propelling larger societal conversations and understanding,” Anthony tells the outlet. “We are interested in all types of stories that have the power to serve as catalysts for the change we wish to see in the world.”

Anthony’s Creative 7 — which was launched with co-founder and producer Asani Swann — will operate as a multi-platform production and content banner that will develop and produce original content both scripted and non-scripted productions — including documentaries, television series, feature films, animation, and podcasts, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Asani and I founded Creative 7 because we both share a passion for creating original content that will give a voice to the silenced, advocate for the underserved, and celebrate the resilience of the human spirit,” Anthony shared with the publication. “We are in a time of profound transformation so we believe it is more important than ever to spotlight the individuals and the stories that will uplift the world and inspire lasting change.”

Swann tells The Hollywood Reporter that through its slate of projects — which includes a narrative series about game-changing professional athletes — the content company aims to tell stories that amplify overlooked voices, encourage tough conversations, bring families together and most of all, open peoples’ minds up to consider new ways of thinking.

“At the core, our goal is to amplify unheard voices and groundbreaking stories that push the envelope and will leave a profound impact,” she says. “As a Black woman, I am proud to co-found a company like Creative 7 that celebrates diversity and inclusion and will strive to push representation in this industry forward.”

Creative 7 currently has several collaborations queued up, including projects with veteran producer Will Packer, Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment and the producing team behind films “Get Out” and “BlacKkKlansman.”
