Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are integral institutions to the story of the United States of America.

Cheyney University of Pennsylvania was established in 1837.

Alabama hosts 14, including Miles College, Oakwood University and Shelton State Community College.
Are HBCUs exclusive to POC scholars?
No. As of 2022, white students made up 11% of enrollment at HBCUs.
Which US President first signed an executive order allocating equitable funding to and strengthening HBCUs?
Jimmy Carter in 1980.
