Amber Ravenel is the creator of Black Santa App, which allows black kids to receive a video call from the Santa that looks like them.
Ravenel told HuffPost that the idea came from her niece who didn’t believe Santa was a person of color.
“When I grew up there was only one type of Santa, and no matter where I went they always looked the same. Not one looked like me or anyone in my family. As our society becomes more and more diverse, I think it’s crucial that there is diversity and inclusion in all aspects of life, the tech tools we use and that should include Santa Claus as well.”
The app, which is available on iTunes for $2.99, comes from Ravenel’s talent agency The Ravenel Agency. The Agency plans to expand the app to include other Santas from different gender and ethnic groups as well.
The app is perfect for today’s tech age, especially in cities that are prone to snowstorms!
