Vanessa and Angela Simmons first made names for themselves on the hit reality show, “Run’s House.” But despite being the daughters of Joseph Simmons — otherwise known as “Rev. Run,” or one-half of the legendary Run-DMC — the two ladies have certainly made a name for themselves, independent of their famous last name.

Angela Simmons is, perhaps, best known as one of the stars of “Growing Up Hip-Hop.” On the show, she depicts her trials and travails of being a businesswoman and a single mother. But despite the struggles she’s gone through, she’s emerged triumphant.

Best of all, she enjoys a close and loving relationship with her sister, Vanessa. Nowhere was this more evident than in a 2007 article for Chron magazine, where the sisters traded friendly banter as journalists wondered whether their Pastry shoe line would take off (It’s worth noting that Angela Simmons cited Beyoncé as a “fashion icon” long before she became the Queen Bey, so she gets points for that alone. You go, girl).

Today, Pastry continues to be a successful shoe brand, and it’s been named the number one dance sneaker in the United States. According to the company’s official website, they’ve partnered with 22 NBA Dance Teams and 15 NFL teams. So, it’s safe to say that the naysayers were wrong.
