Netflix continues to widen its global content in a deal with British-Nigerian actor John Boyega, says Variety. Through the “Star Wars” star’s UpperRoom Productions, the online streaming service will develop non-English language films.

In a statement, Netflix explained that the output from Boyega’s production house will include film projects based on a variety of aspects from East and West African countries.

“Africa has a rich history in storytelling,” said David Kosse, VP of international film at Netflix. “For Netflix, this partnership with John and UpperRoom presents an opportunity to further our investment in the continent…”

Recently, Netflix has positioned itself as a hub for unique African stories. Its first original series, “Queen Sono,” has shown great promise for what’s to come for the platform. Additionally, South African teen drama “Blood & Water” and animated series “Mama K’s Team 4” are slated for later this year.

“I am thrilled to partner with Netflix to develop a slate of non-English language feature films focused on African stories, and my team and I are excited to develop original material,” said Boyega. “We are proud to grow this arm of our business with a company that shares our vision.”
