Twin sisters Jordyn and Morgan Jackson grew up accomplishing different things together, and now they’re making history together as college graduates.

According to Black Enterprise, at just 20-years-old both twins have earned their respective bachelor’s degrees from Xavier University — a renowned Historically Black College and University (HBCU) located in New Orleans, LA.

The outlet reports that the Jackson sisters’ college journey began back in 2018 when they graduated from North Houston Early College with high school diplomas and associate degrees in hand.

Fast forward to today, Jordyn has just received her bachelor of science degree in accounting, while her twin Morgan has earned her bachelor of arts degree in mass communications from their esteemed HBCU. Now both sisters are on their way to officially starting the next chapter of their lives.

“This moment is so surreal. We both have worked hard our entire lives and it is finally paying off,” Morgan told AfroTech. “We didn’t expect so much love and support for our accomplishments. Every day a new source or platform is re-posting our story and we couldn’t be more grateful. God is truly showing up and showing out in our lives. We can’t stop here. There’s so much more to accomplish. We want to be the light of our generation and community.”

The Jackson sisters were dedicated academic scholars who took their majors very seriously. Upon turning down a future as a lawyer, Jordyn instead decided to pursue accounting as her next option and began attending the AICPA and National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) conferences to get more invested in the profession.

“I took my first accounting class, enjoyed it, and stuck with it. I want to continue to increase the pipeline of Black CPAs because it’s less than 3%,” Jordyn shared. “That’s my why and my drive for doing what I do. I want to show young Black girls and boys that there are other career options out there. Accounting is a great profession.”

While Morgan shared an interest in business with her sister, she also opted for another career path and set her sights on mass communications.

“I love speaking and I did poetry a lot in high school so I wanted to learn more,” she told Black Enterprise. “When I got on campus, I fell in love with mass communications. We are the only department on Xavier’s campus that was all Black. That was amazing to me. Being mentored by Black women and men who were in the industry opened my horizons to what a career in mass communications [could look like].”

She plans to use her degree to put herself in a position to bridge the gap between corporate companies and marginalized communities by way of community communications.

In addition to pursuing their respective studies, both twins were active students on their college campus as members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Separately, Jordyn worked as a Resident Assistant and also became a INROADS and Executive Leadership Council scholar. Morgan became a member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and National Millennial & Generation Z Community. She also worked as a Marketing & Communication Specialist for the Center for Minority Health & Health Disparities Research & Education within Xavier‘s College of Pharmacy.

Though the two plan to continue on their scholarly journeys separately, they’ll both be pursuing master degree programs in both journalism and accounting in the fall.

“All of our lives we have been together,” Jordyn posted on LinkedIn. “Now we will be entering separate educational pathways to make our impact on the world.”
