Georgia Power just made an electric move!

The utility company based in Atlanta announced that Chris Womack has been elected by the Georgia Power Board of Directors to become the company’s new chairman, president, and CEO.

Womack will succeed current chairman Paul Bowers who is set to retire in April 2021. Although he won’t retire until next year, Womack will assume his new role on Nov. 1, 2020, and will also take over additional responsibilities as both CEO and chairman once Bowers completely steps down.

“It’s an exciting time to be back at Georgia Power, especially when we’re poised to make history with the first new nuclear units in the U.S. in decades, said Womack who currently serves as the president and executive vice president of External Affairs for Southern Co., the parent company of Georgia Power.

He expresses his excitement to rejoin the Georgia Power family.

“This company has an incredible legacy of delivering world-class customer service and reliability to Georgians, while also being a leader in the communities it serves,” said Womack. “ It is an honor to be able to come back and be a part of the wonderful team of people at Georgia Power and help continue their great work.”

A veteran of the company, Womack has served as the vice president and president of External Affairs since 2009 and has been with them since 1998. He also led regulatory and governmental affairs for the company along with external and strategic business engagements and other corporate communication initiatives.

Once he takes over as president next month, Womack will be responsible for Georgia Power’s volunteerism, energy efficiency, charitable giving, economic development, transmission, distribution, and generation efforts. He will become captain of a ship that serves 2.6 million customers across the state of Georgia.

Womack will also be responsible for the company’s effort to fight climate change, storm response, and recovery, plus much more.

According to BLACK ENTERPRISE. Bowers, who has led Georgia Power for more than a decade says his time at the company has been the honor of his life and he can’t wait to see them continue their commitment to the state.

Fanning also confirms the appointment of Womack with confidence.
