Black love is typically just seen through the lens of romance. But for BLK, their platform is created to be a loving space for the Black community, no matter their reason for joining. Of course, the Match Group extension, which launched in 2017, is primarily a place for Black singles to connect and potentially find a life partner, but BLK is also a hub for enlightening conversations around social issues and a space to reaffirm the Black American experience. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, BLK launched “Once You Go BLK” campaign, a celebration of the unlimited potential of Black love. The worlds of pizza, music, and community service have collided in Washington, D.C. with the opening of &pizza and Broccoli City’s Broccoli Bar. The two D.C.-based companies collaborated to open Broccoli Bar after &pizza’s co-founder Michael Lastoria and Broccoli City’s co-founders Marcus Allen, Brandon McEachern, and Darryl Perkins–met in March at the SXSW conference. Now the companies are breaking into D.C.’s happy hour scene. “They’re doing big things in the community. We want to lift them up and spread their gospel the way others have spread ours,” Lastoria told Eater in an interview. Broccoli Bar is located at 1817 7th Street NW, making it an ideal spot for Howard University students to hang out and enjoy in Shaw neighborhood.
