Atlanta-based nonprofit LoveBeyondWalls is doing its part by extending a helping hand to the most vulnerable population during the COVID-19 pandemic.

LoveBeyondWalls is an organization that prioritizes the needs of homeless residents in the city of Atlanta. Seeing as though the pandemic has left the homeless population with even less access to resources, the organization took action to build portable hand-washing stations to protect themselves and prevent the spread of the virus.

“When I was experiencing homelessness being out there, you would have to go a mile or two to wash your hands or go to the bathroom. I wanted to make sure we put stations in parts where people are under bridges, just in case someone wants to stop and wash their hands,” Terrence Lester, one of the organizers behind LoveBeyondWalls, told Shoppe Black.

Seeing how coronavirus has put the homeless at such a disadvantage, Lester did what he could to give back to the community.

The idea for these portable hand-washing stations came to life after Lester contacted RV manufacturers to help supply the technology used to build these devices. So far, 15 portable stations have been donated to the organization and they’ve taken it upon themselves to set them up all over the Atlanta metro area.

Entertainer and businessman Lecrae even got in on the action and partnered with the nonprofit to help alleviate our current health crisis. In an open letter to Billboard, he wrote:

“While we can heed The Center For Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation to stay away from others who are sick, avoid crowds, and properly wash our hands, I can’t help but think about those living on the street who have no way to bathe or wash their hands. People who may eat, sleep and congregate so close to each other that social distancing is not possible. Partnering with Love Beyond Walls is my way of doing what Jesus did which is serve humanity. I’m humbled to support the work of organizations like Love Beyond Walls who help, serve, bring light, love, peace, and restoration every day.”
