Comcast Corporation has announced Broderick D. Johnson as its newest Executive Vice President of Public Policy and Executive Vice President of Digital Equity to join the company.

In his new role, Johnson will oversee the company’s Public Policy team in Washington, D.C. and play a leading role in Comcast’s digital equity space, a press release reports. He will succeed Rebecca Arbogast in leading the Public Policy team and report to Chief Legal Officer and Secretary Tom Reid.

“Broderick is a highly trusted and respected leader in the public policy arena. We welcome his strategic insights and his passion for promoting digital equity,” Reid said in a statement. “We share the goal of connecting as many Americans as possible to broadband and Broderick’s rich experience will bring invaluable knowledge and understanding to the company. Rebecca has been instrumental in guiding our public policy activities over the last decade, we thank her for that and we congratulate Rebecca on her retirement.”

In his experience as a lawyer, policy advisor and strategist, Johnson brings with him over three decades of expertise working in various capacities under two U.S. presidents, as a senior advisor for several presidential campaigns as well as in numerous senior positions on Capitol Hill. He’s also prevously worked at companies such as Covington & Burling, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner and AT&T.

Comcast’s decade-long efforts to close the digital equity gap is being expanded with a $1 billion commitment to reach 50 million more Americans over the next 10 years.

This commitment includes providing additional support for the Lift Zone initiative — which is helping to establish WiFi-connected safe spaces in 1,000+ community centers nationwide for both students and adults by the end of 2021 — new laptop and computer donations; grants for nonprofit community organizations; and continued investments in Comcast’s landmark Internet Essentials program.

Johnson now joins Comcast’s team with the expectation to aid in the company’s long-standing efforts that will give more U.S. citizens equal access to a plethora of digital resources.
