Black women entrepreneurs are killing it left and right across all work fields!

However, the unfortunate reality is that when some are first starting out, they’re not allotted an adequate amount of funding and investments to fully help bring their visions to fruition.

Capital One Business has taken action to be a part of changing this by championing Black woman-owned businesses in partnership with Boss Women Media — an organization that provides women with resources to actively pursue their dreams — for their Black Girl Magic Pitch Competition.

The pitch competition was announced in a Capital One press release along with their Black Girl Magic Digital Summit.

“At Capital One, we celebrate the powerful impact women of color have on the workplace, economy and broader society,” said Celia Edwards Karam, Chief Audit Officer at Capital One in the press release. “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Boss Women Media to host this year’s summit, and motivated by our opportunity to leverage our scale and resources to hold space for important conversations around financial wellbeing, building generational wealth and more.”

The ultimate mission behind sponsoring the Black Girl Magic Pitch Competition along with the summit was to grant Black women with funding and integral resources to get their businesses off the ground running.

The Black Girl Magic Digital Summit took place Aug. 21-22 where thousands were in attendance for networking, building connections and the competition itself. The summit’s speakers lineup included former White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, actresses Yara Shahidi and Naturi Naughton, and Women’s National Basketball Association’s Candace Parker.

According to Essence, the competition finalists pitched to the Capital One judges panel and three winners were announced.

The first prize winner is Monisha Edwards, who created her candle company, Scent & Fire, which aims to help people that suffer from mental disorders like herself. Coming in at second place is Ashley Young, owner of Bridal Babes — an online bridal boutique. Jacquelyn Rodgers secured third place with her decor brand, Greentop Gifts, which has a mission of bringing more diversity to gift wrap and stationery for celebrations and special events.
