Nonprofit organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) made history last week after announcing a big change in their leadership team.

According to their announcement, BBBSA appointed Artis Stevens — SVP and Chief Marketing Officer of youth organization National 4-H Council — as their new CEO. The new appointment makes it the first time ever in the nonprofit’s 116-year history that a Black executive will serve in such a role at the company.

Stevens will reportedly succeed Pam Iorio as President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America after Iorio’s seven-year tenure at the organization.

“We thank Pam Iorio for her commitment and dedication in building a strong foundation for our organization,” Ken Burdick, Board Chair at Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, said in a statement. “Pam was instrumental in establishing a 5-year strategic plan focused on innovative technology solutions, new funding opportunities and brand transformation. As we look to the future, we know Artis has the expertise– and passion–to lead this organization and defend the potential of youth across the country.”

As BBBSA’s incoming CEO, Stevens brings 25 years of leadership in the positive youth development sector, the announcement shares, along with his diverse background in combining innovative marketing, fundraising, and program strategies.

Additionally, his impact on youth, families, and communities in need has allowed him to inspire partnerships with more than 60 well-known brands across the country. He hopes his experience will help him lead BBBSA’s efforts.

“One of the most important parts of my life has been the opportunity to lead purpose-driven work and empowering young people to be the change they want to see in the world,” Stevens said in a statement. “I’ve grown up in youth development and know first-hand the life-changing impact mentorship can have on one’s life and I have dedicated my career to bringing these types of experiences to all young people. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead this amazing organization and continue the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.”

Stevens has worked in his respective roles at National 4-H Council since 2014, according to a press release, leading the organization’s “brand positioning, alumni and marketing campaigns, digital transformation and local engagement efforts.”

He also helped drive revenue across the organization’s e-commerce and digital platforms, which in turn doubled its fundraising pipelines and greatly increased 4-H’s digital footprint to over one million alumni and supporters.
