If this isn’t a sign to take serious precautions before falling victim to social media scams, we don’t know what else will serve as a reminder! According to Fortune, a popular Thai YouTuber used her influence to cheat thousands of people out of roughly $55 million through a foreign exchange trading scam. Nathhamon Khongchak, who is known as Nutty to her followers, managed to draw in more than 847,000 subscribers on the video-sharing platform where she gained notoriety for sharing clips of her dancing.
This YouTuber used his coins to bless his parents in a huge way. In an interview with E! News, LeJuan James revealed he recognized the sacrifices that his parents made working day and night to care for him and his siblings. From working multiple jobs, and even taking overnight shifts in order to provide for the family, his parents did what they had to do to ensure that their children had everything that they needed. With the odds already stacked against them, James’ parents found themselves in an even deeper financial crisis in 2007 before ultimately losing two homes.
NBA Youngboy has had enough of YouTubers swiping his content for their page. According to HipHopDX, the Louisiana native took to his Instagram page to demand Atlantic Records — his label — ban the use of his music in reaction videos. “Atlantic ban my music from all YouTubers – get a real job,” NBA YoungBoy wrote. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Say Cheese TV 👄🧀 (@saycheesetv) In my opinion, for what it’s worth, the Baton Rouge-based rapper has — quite literally — millions, if not billions, of reasons to feel the way he does about people using his music without writing him a check. As one of the most successful artists on the platform, he has a vested interest in keeping things copacetic. With that said, let’s take a look at his YouTube numbers.
All it takes is one person to give you a chance, and in Chloe x Halle’s case, it was Beyoncé. Thanks to their savvy social media approach, the sister duo eventually caught the attention of none other than Beyoncé, who spotted their YouTube page and eventually began pushing them on her own social media pages. “Beyoncé saw our YouTube video online, and that’s because so many people shared it, and it created a buzz,” Chloe said, according to Rolling Stone. Eventually, the Queen became their mentor and signed them to Parkwood Entertainment, her record label. And, as might be expected, that move jettisoned Chloe x Halle into the stratosphere. Even by their own admission, their career wouldn’t be what it is today were it not for Mrs. Knowles-Carter. “Beyoncé is the true definition of what it is to be yourself and work hard and give it your all,” they said to Rolling Stone. “As young artists and as young Black women who watch her, you automatically know your worth. You know to stand in...
People around the world can attest that the last two years have been interesting to navigate. One of the U.K.’s top social media influencers has a beyond interesting story. Youtuber, KSI, revealed that he lost more than $5 million by trading cryptocurrency last year. The admittance of the tremendous financial loss comes after KSI has been very visible with his investments in non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and digital currencies, evidenced by his YouTube channel. In a YouTube video, the famous YouTuber revealed that he used a trading strategy called leverage trading by borrowing money from a broker. The strategy, which he fully regrets, led to this significant loss. Leverage trading is a way for traders to use the borrowed funds from brokers to increase their exposure in the market while paying less than the total price of the desired stock. In this process, the trader takes on a more prominent stock position. Sounds like a dope idea? While the process seems beneficial, it comes with...
Tasha K has lost her last appeal against Cardi B. As Billboard reported, the “WAP” rapper — real name: Belcalis Almanzar — successfully petitioned the court to issue a permanent injunction against the YouTube blogger (real name: Latasha Kebe). The permanent injunction requires that Tasha K remove all videos from her YouTube channel that defame or otherwise mention Cardi B in a retaliatory manner. In total, the blogger will be pulling down more than 20 videos — permanently — from her page. Cardi B had previously petitioned the court for a permanent injunction after she was awarded millions of dollars in defamation damages (and legal fees) against the YouTuber, whom she said was an “ongoing threat” to her with her “disgusting lies.” And while Tasha K initially filed for an appeal against the “Bodak Yellow” rapper, she ultimately conceded that she would, in fact, have to comply with the injunction. That said, Tasha K continues to appeal the verdict to a higher court. If she is...
YouTuber Tasha K has filed an appeal against female rapper Cardi B. According to Radar Online, the controversial blogger — whom Cardi B successfully sued for defamation — wants the court to reconsider the case, and as such, she’s filed an appeal. The appeal was officially filed on March 17. “The above-named Defendants, Latasha Kebe [Tasha K’s real name] and Kebe Studios LLC, appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit from the final judgment entered on February 17, 2022,” the filing reads, according to the outlet. “Respectfully submitted this 17th day of March, 2022.” Previously, it was revealed that Tasha K admitted that she didn’t have $4 million to pay to the “Bodak Yellow” rapper, who won a $4 million judgment for defamation against the YouTuber. “I ain’t got it,” Tasha K said, according to Radar Online. “Listen, I ain’t got it. I ain’t got it. Don’t ask me for the money. I ain’t got it. But listen, we have business and things in place that takes care...
When Cardi B said she made money moves, this may or may not be what she meant. According to Entertainment Tonight, the “Bodak Yellow” emcee just won huge in the defamation lawsuit against an Atlanta YouTube blogger who made false accusations against the Bronx native. A decision was made by a federal jury on Monday against the blogger, Latasha Kebe — better known as Tasha K — for defamation and two other forms of misconduct through both her internet posts and YouTube videos which claimed that Cardi B had herpes, used cocaine, and “f*cked herself with beer bottles on f*cking stripper stages.”
Just two years after a previous incident where his home was also raided, Bill Omar Carrasquillo — commonly known as “Omi in a Hellcat” on YouTube — received an abrupt awakening from federal authorities. On the morning of Sept. 21, the YouTuber was placed in handcuffs and indicted for an ongoing internet piracy scheme in his New Jersey mansion. Carrasquillo — a YouTuber who once boasted about his 790,000 subscribers on the social platform — has flashed his lavish lifestyle over the years, which includes millions of dollars in assets, 52 properties, and 57 vehicles, according to CBSPhilly. A large portion of the YouTuber’s wealth is said to be illegal — coming from the Internet protocol television service, (IPTV) Reboot, Gears TV, Reloaded and Gears Reloaded. Editorial Note: Opinions and thoughts are the author’s own and not those of AFROTECH™ and will not impact the outcome of the events. TikTok has been the center of controversy, due to national security concerns, since 2020, when President Donald Trump first attempted to ban the app in the U.S. Former President Joe Biden continued to push forward with a ban, passing a mandate with overwhelming congressional support to force TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, to sell to a U.S. company or be banned in the U.S. After several lawsuits and attempts to reverse the decision, the app chose to go dark right before Trump was inaugurated. Since then, Trump has signed an executive order to delay the ban by 75 days , providing a reprieve for TikTok and millions of its U.S. users and more time to sell the app to an American company. Now, time is almost up as the app is at risk again of being banned on April 5 . The Trump administration has stated that it is in talks with several...
TikTok still doesn’t appear interested in selling its app. As AFROTECH™ previously told you, the app was temporarily banned in the U.S. due to a mandate requiring TikTok — owned by China-based company ByteDance — to sell to a U.S.-based company. The ban, established by former President Joe Biden, was initially set to take effect on Jan. 19, 2025, but TikTok went offline 12 hours early after the Supreme Court moved to uphold the ban, Forbes reports. President Donald Trump announced at the time he intended to save the app once he assumed office. Users received a message on the app from TikTok that read, “Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Donald Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!” Following his inauguration, Trump signed an executive order granting a 75-day...
TikTok will remain operational for at least another 75 days following an order from President Donald Trump. On Monday, Jan. 19, 2025, during his first day in office , Trump — who has the authority to delay the ban for up to 90 days — ordered the federal government to pause enforcing the law that would ban TikTok nationwide, according to Forbes. The move gives ByteDance, the China-based owner of TikTok, more time to sell a stake in the platform or reach a deal with Trump. After signing the executive order, Trump said he believes the U.S. is entitled to 50% of TikTok and warned China that blocking any deal he may make would be considered an act of “hostility” and lead him to impose tariffs ranging from 25% to 100%, per Forbes. On Sunday, Jan. 20, Trump had promised to sign an executive order on Monday rescinding the ban, prompting TikTok to restore service for its more than 170 million American users after it initially took the app dark the night before. STATEMENT FROM TIKTOK: In...
