Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter has been a rollercoaster experience. The purchase of the social media giant came with significant changes including massive layoffs and payments for the once-coveted blue check. Not to mention, AfroTech reported that one of the significant shifts with Musk as CEO was the closing of Twitter’s Africa office. The Ghana office had only 20 employees but was closed just days after officially opening. Surprising moves like the layoffs and added restrictions have been back to back as Musk navigates his power leading the company. A recent development in the shake-up is the dissolution of its corporate development team that supported minority-owned venture capital firms. According to Forbes, Twitter could be backing out of its promise of millions to venture capital firms and small businesses.

Twitter Says 'Goodbye, Fleets' After Reporting Low Usage From Users

In less than a year of debuting its disappearing tweets feature, Twitter will be shutting down “fleets” after reporting low usage among its online users. According to a blog post from the platform, Ilya Brown — Head of Product, Brand & Video Ads at Twitter — reports that Twitter has not seen growth among users making good use of the Fleets feature — which allows users to share thoughts, photos and tweets for up to 24 hours — since launching last November. As a result, the feature will be discontinued on Aug. 3. “We built Fleets as a lower-pressure, ephemeral way for people to share their fleeting thoughts,” Brown wrote. “We hoped Fleets would help more people feel comfortable joining the conversation on Twitter. Because of this, on August 3, Fleets will no longer be available on Twitter.” The blog post also states that...

My portraits aim to capture the sensibility, optimism and beauty of urban life, and in Jay’s work I’ve found tremendous kinship.” According to Variety, this collaboration will be the first NFT...
