Are Women Who Find Their Careers Fulfilling Happier?

It is no secret that women face more challenges than men in the workforce. From pay discrepancies to patriarchal views on leadership, many women have found it harder to navigate pathways to career success. Although these circumstances are true, they do not eliminate the reality that many women have overcome social constructs and systemic barriers to excel across several industries. But does career success equal happiness? A report from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) indicated that work happiness is strongly influenced by engaging in meaningful work, feeling valued by coworkers, and enjoying daily tasks. For women, however, the context is more nuanced. According to Forbes, job satisfaction differs significantly between men and women. The Conference Board’s latest survey reveals that women are notably less satisfied than men for the seventh consecutive year in nearly all aspects of their jobs. This wasn’t always the case — between 2011 and 2016, satisfaction levels were nearly...

Fintech Company Waza Raises $8M In A Seed Round To Transform B2B Payments And Improve Global Trade Across Africa

Waza has raised $8 million to improve the financial technology sector in Africa. TechCrunch mentions that emerging economies tend to buy more from other countries than they sell, leading to an increase in demand for U.S. dollars to trade internationally. Combined with limited supply, trading can be more expensive. The outlet also notes that Africa’s lack of technological solutions worsens the issue. Thus, Waza’s efforts are timely for Africa because it exists to ensure Africa-based companies and traders can have liquidity and more seamless B2B payments using U.S. dollars, euros, and Great Britain pounds, per the company website. Within its first month of operations, the company’s payment volume reached $280,000, according to TechCrunch. In May 2024, those numbers had dramatically increased, with $70 million in monthly payment volume equating to $700 million in annualized transaction volume, Co-Founder and CEO Maxwell Obi confirmed to TechCrunch. “Cross-border payments in the context...

Olympic Gold Medalist Masai Russell Learned How To Manage Her NIL Deals From Her Mother

Thanks to her mother’s advice, track-and-field athlete and Olympic gold medalist Masai Russell felt comfortable taking on NIL opportunities. In 2021, college athletes were permitted to profit from their name, image, and likeness for the first time due to an NCAA rule change, the New York Times reports. Russell, a University of Kentucky student-athlete at the time, was in disbelief. She recently expressed that it had been the status quo for athletes not to receive compensation. “When I was able to see that NIL was an opportunity that I could take advantage of, I didn’t know that it was real at first,” she mentioned during an interview on “The It Girls” podcast. “I didn’t know this was something that was in the making for so long because everyone, it was always like an ongoing, ‘Oh, no. Athletes shouldn’t get paid. Athletes should get paid.’ It was always a back-and-forth battle. So when the law actually got passed, I really didn’t believe it.” After further research, Russell was...
