Diddy is pushing for bigger and better for Capital Prep Harlem — his New York City charter school. On Nov.11, the Harlem native announced that the charter school will be moving to the Church of All Saints and School building, ABC News reports. The new campus allows Capital Prep Harlem’s capacity to grow from 500 to 700 students from grades 6th through 12th. The school’s expansion through the relocation is set to open the door for even greater educational opportunities for Harlem students. “The kids of Harlem should have access to opportunity and a quality education and deserve to learn on a campus that reflects the level of excellence we aspire for them to achieve,” Diddy said in a statement. “This new campus for Capital Prep Harlem reflects my commitment to empowering as many children as I can and creating spaces for the next generation of leaders to thrive in every aspect of their lives.” For the 2022-2023 school year, students will be stepping on the new campus that features “40...

Universal Hip Hop Museum Auctions Off Hip Hop Heads NFT Series To Honor 47 Years Of The Culture

Hip-Hop is diving headfirst into the non-fungible token (NFT) space with its very own collection to honor 47 years of the culture. On June 19, the Universal Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx — in partnership with blockchain platform NEAR Protocol and celebrated illustrator André LeRoy Davis — debuted a special collection of NFTs in which Hip-Hop fans are now able to own a piece of the genre’s history, a press release states. The goal of the new collection is to both honor years of Hip-Hop’s rich music culture that has given artists a space to be creative and also champion ownership of their intellectual property through cutting-edge decentralized blockchain and NFT technologies. “NFTs bring a unique opportunity to honor Hip Hop icons as well as offer artists more control of their creations” Peter DePaulo — head of NEAR’s product lab, Satori — said in a statement. “Our goal is to offer a familiar, smooth onboarding and purchasing experience unlike what’s required at NFT marketplaces built...

Pharrell To Open Private Schools For Students From Low-Income Households

Grammy award-winning super-producer Pharrell Williams is always finding new ways to give back to his community, and now his latest project is focusing on youth in his home state. According to The Virginian-Pilot, Williams recently called out the unjust public school system in Virginia and revealed his own master plan to open a group of small private schools for students from low-income families. Pharrell strongly believes the state’s public school system needs to be refined in a way that doesn’t allow it to turn its back on underprivileged students. Now he’s using his nonprofit organization to pay it forward and get all students the education they deserve. “If the system is fixed and unfair, then it needs to be broken,” he said in a news release. “We don’t want lockstep learning where so many kids fall behind; we want bespoke learning designed for each child, where the things that make a child different are the same things that will make a child rise up and take flight.” The new...

Diddy Calls Out GM, Corporate America For Exploiting Black-Owned Media Companies

Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs penned an open letter calling out corporate America, specifically General Motors (GM), for exploiting Black-owned media companies via his cable network’s entertainment and news site, REVOLT. In a letter titled, “If You Love Us, Pay Us,” Diddy exposes how corporations like General Motors falsely claim to support Black media companies like his own in an act that both robs them of advertising revenue and contributes to a history of systemic racism. “The same feet these companies use to stand with us in solidarity are the same feet they use to stand on our necks,” he writes, reports Blavity. The letter also calls additional attention to efforts from Byron Allen of Allen Media Group in which he and several other Black media companies took out a full page advertisement in the Detroit Free Press that directly blasted GM CEO Mary Barra for racism against said companies. While GM has claimed to be in support of companies like REVOLT, Diddy challenged that...
