As American social media users brace for the Jan. 19 TikTok ban , thousands have begun searching for alternative apps to satiate their doom scrolling fix. While many American-based tech CEO’s such as Mark Zuckerberg had hoped that the TikTok ban would encourage users to flock to other short-form video players such as Instagram or YouTube Shorts, it seems that the masses have stumbled onto an unknown gem called Xiaohongshu instead. The app, which translates to RedNote in English, is owned by a Shanghai-based company known as Xingyin Information Technology, and touts itself as a lifestyle, social networking and e-commerce service . Given that RedNote primarily serves a Chinese audience, it defaults to Mandarin upon download, and exposes new users to an audience of hundreds of millions of overseas subscribers. The sudden influx of so-called “TikTok refugees” has caused RedNote to skyrocket in popularity, taking it to the number one position among the free apps chart on both the Apple...

Lizzo is a tech girlie, now — and we’re here for it. For Logitech’s latest creative campaign, and in true Lizzo fashion, she is seated behind a computer screen sporting a vibrant tulle dress and soon becomes engulfed by Logitech’s newest innovation. And while she chose a tech company to debut her next single, she admits to Forbes she is not the most digital tech-savvy. “The hardware and me don’t get along,” she said. Nonetheless, the experience served as a reminder that technology is a bridge to connect with others. “So it was really a great metaphor of me being, like, ‘How do you work this camera,’ and then I get swooped into this world to be free and then dance and then fly into the sky and bear witness to all of these other great creators and connect with them and be in wonder with them,” Lizzo said, according to Forbes.

The City Girls are here to stay, whether their haters like it or not. In a recent report for Rolling Stone, it was revealed that Summer Walker was enlisting the aid of JT for her newest album, “Still Over It.” The outlet confirms that in the teaser video for the album — which is set to drop in November 2021 — Walker is featured on the phone with JT. While arguably controversial, it’s also just in the City Girls style to flip a negative into a positive (since the video was dated two years ago, it’s meant to imply that it was recorded during JT’s incarceration). Since they first burst onto the mixtape scene in 2017, JT (born Jatavia Shakara Johnson) and Yung Miami (born Caresha Romeka Brownlee) have been making waves everywhere they go. They’ve certainly come a long way from their humble beginnings — born and raised in poverty, JT and Yung Miami worked in fast-food joints and Whole Foods Market before making it big. From appearances on hit songs (Drake’s “In My Feelings) to...

Last Thursday (Aug. 26), the R&B singer took to her secondary Instagram account to share with her followers an alternative solution to solve her problems with the visual app, REVOLT reports. “I’m bout to look into creating a app similar cause this IG shit going to hell,” she wrote in a post before also adding, “idk if I even wanna drop my Galactawhore merch on here….. lol it might go against they “‘guidelines.’” Walker has ran into some trouble recently with the content she’s posted on her Instagram page, citing her violations against the app’s guidelines after posting several controversial posts online — including anti-vaccination rhetoric. “I’m done w this app, and really this whole plandemic agenda,” she wrote in a since-deleted post in response to Instagram flagging her content. “It goes against guidelines to say sleep, water,...
