Now, ten states have sued T-Mobile and Sprint in order to prevent the merger. The states include California, Colorado, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New York, Michigan, Mississippi, Virginia, and Wisconsin. The main argument centers around how this merger will stifle competition. If there are fewer choices for cellphone services, then the few that exist can easily rack up prices. After much speculation, Sprint is finally disclosing some plans for rolling out its 5G network. Today the telecomm giant announced that beginning in may, the first cities to get 5G will be Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas , and Kansas City. Houston, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and New York City will be added to the network shortly after. Sprint hasn’t offered a lot of details on what 5G will actually look like for consumers, but the first phone to be compatible with the network will be the LG V50 ThinQ 5G. Other products will be available on the network at a later date. Sprint will also be partnering with Google Fi — the search giant’s mobile network — although plans for a 5G compatible device have not been announced by Google yet. Installing 5G throughout the entire country is a massive undertaking and will take a long time. For now, Sprint says it plans to cover 1,000 square miles across nine cities by the end of the summer. AT&T’s competitors have taken note of the company’s “5G Evolution” branding on phones and networks using 4G LTE Advanced Technology, but it hasn’t gone beyond crafty tweets or company blog posts –until now. Sprint recently filed a lawsuit in federal court, seeking an injunction to stop AT&T from using 5GE tags on its devices or advertising. In Sprint’s legal complaint , the company said it surveyed customers and found 54 percent of them believed AT&T’s “5GE” is as fast as, or faster than, actual 5G. Sprint also found that 43 percent of customers believed if they bought an AT&T phone today it would be 5G capable. According to Sprint, neither of those are true. Bennett College, the all-women’s historically black college in Greensboro, N.C. has entered its last day for fundraising to keep the doors of the school opened. The college still needs nearly $1.5 million to keep its accreditation and is accepting donations through Cash App and its website. Bennett has leaned on alumni, students and corporate donations in the last two months. The institution has received major donations from Alpha Kappa Alpha, Papa John’s and other HBCU graduates.
