FanDuel Among Approved Nine Mobile Sports Operators In New York — Jay-Z-Backed Fanatics Out

Jay-Z may no longer be in a New York state of mind. As AfroTech previously reported, the billionaire business mogul made a move to open a New York sportsbook in partnership with sports e-retailer Fanatics, making a bid with the New York State Gaming Commission back in August 2021. Now, according to 1010 WINS, the state’s gambling commission has approved nine mobile sports betting operators for the state, but neither Jay-Z-backed Fanatics nor Barstool Sports’ Penn Sports Interactive was recommended for a vote by the state. Thomas DiNapoli, the State’s comptroller, said that he estimates mobile sports gambling could bring in an excess of $500 million by 2025 to the state. But, it should be noted, the nine companies that were approved — including DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM — have agreed to pay a tax rate of 51 percent to the state of New York to operate their companies in the state. Golf legend Tiger Woods is taking a swing at non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with the release of his first collection. According to USA Today, on Sept. 21 Woods released 10,000 NFTs through Autograph — a NFT platform co-founded by Super Bowl champion Tom Brady. “The intersection of sports and technology is such an interesting space to me, and I’m thrilled to partner with Autograph as they lead the charge by ushering a new era of digital collecting,” Woods said. “It’s been an honor to join their advisory board among so many iconic athletes, and I’m looking forward to bringing fans closer to my memorable sports moments at an accessible price, and to the game I respect so much.” Woods’ collection comprises of 10,000 digital images of himself, which is available for purchase and sold exclusively on DraftKings Marketplace, USA Today reports. Michael Jordan And The Jordan Brand Announce Multimillion-Dollar Commitments Toward Black Excellence

Michael Jordan, together with his eponymous Jordan Brand, has announced a new set of financial initiatives for Black excellence. In a press release announcement, it was revealed that they’ve issued grants to three renowned institutions: Morehouse College, a popular Historically Black College and University; Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History and Culture; and Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting. Jordan will be donating $3 million to the Smithsonian over the course of three years. He will be donating $1 million over two years to Morehouse, and he will be donating $1 million over two years to the Ida B.
