Face2Face Africa features the story of Anta Babacar Ngom, who inherited Sedima from her father, Babacar, when he retired from work. Sedima is Senegal’s biggest poultry producer, and it is, in fact, one of the largest poultry producers on the continent. Ngom oversees the company’s production, distribution, and development. According to her LinkedIn page, Ngom is also the General Director of KFC Senegal, where she has been for three years. But the Senegalese woman isn’t just about the chicken. In fact, under her tutelage, Sedima actually diversified its portfolio. In 2014, Ngom oversaw the company’s expansion into flour mills. Headlines are sweeping with coronavirus concerns, cancellations, and precautions. While people are self-quarantining for their own safety, Senegal is taking the lead on providing rapid diagnostic tests for the virus. CNN reported that Senegal has partnered with a U.K.-based laboratory called Mologic to develop hand-held tests for coronavirus that produces results in only ten minutes. “This will be the first handheld diagnostic kit collaboratively developed in the UK and jointly manufactured in Africa,” Mologic said in a statement . They also shared in their statement that these rapid tests will be especially beneficial in low-income countries where accuracy for testing has proven to be a challenge. “Rapid detection of the virus is important to stop its spread — we are pleased that the UK government has acknowledged this, supporting Mologic and the work of our partners to prevent further outbreaks internationally,” Mologic Medical Director Joe Fitchett said. As previously reported by AfroTech, the ex-business partner of Akon claims that the singer still owes him four million dollars. In a new allegation, he now says that the Senegal native’s plans to build his own city could be a Ponzi scheme. AfroTech also shared the news of Akon’s plans to begin building a futuristic city in Africa. Per reports from Complex, Devyne Stephens has now asked a judge to freeze Akon’s New York assets in an effort to get his money more quickly. Those reports also reveal that the court documents say Akon is “flagrantly breaching two separate contractual promises.”
Initialized, a standalone San Francisco-based early-stage venture capital firm that now has $3.2 billion in assets under management and more than 200 active companies in the portfolio, has announced Abdul Ly as its fourth principal.
