Quibi is shutting down after only six months of operation. In an open letter , founders Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman confirmed the end of the mobile streaming service that raised close to $2 billion in funding. “We started with the idea to create the next generation of storytelling and because of you, we were able to create and deliver the best version of what we imagined Quibi to be,” the letter reads. “So it is with an incredibly heavy heart that today we are announcing that we are winding down the business and looking to sell its content and technology assets.” Quibi was designed for people on-the-go, but by its launch in early April, the global pandemic was nearing its first peak and potential users were more than likely self-isolating at home. Racial bias in healthcare affects Black people disproportionately. As a global health pandemic spreads, doctors fear Black communities don’t have access to adequate coronavirus tests. BuzzFeed News reports that a group of Virginia-based doctors—Dr. Cameron Webb, Dr. Taison Bell, Dr. Leigh-Ann Webb, and Dr. Ebony Hilton—is requesting that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization release data about testing in underserved areas. The concern with current public information is the absence of stats broken down by race and ethnicity. They fear that Black people aren’t tested. The soul singer announced that she has plans to live stream a quarantine concert from her Dallas bedroom for those fans who need an escape from the coronavirus madness. Badu’s interactive Apocalypse One concert will cost fans a small fee of just $1 and she’s even taking song suggestions from viewers.
