Nearly three years after officially saying farewell to the NFL, Marshawn Lynch has found his way back to the city he once called home while on the field. CNBC reports that the former Seattle Seahawks star is now a minority investor in the NHL’s Seattle Kraken, which is reportedly valued at $875 million. In addition, Lynch is joined by rapper and Seattle native Macklemore. “This is something I never would have imagined,” Lynch said in a press release. “I always dreamed of playing on a professional team but owning one is something special. As I look back on some of my accomplishments — I retired before I was 30 and now being an owner of a professional club at the age of 35 – I’m gonna continue to count my blessings.” Further details of the announcement weren’t released, but it’s said that “minority equity stake deals similar to this are generally for 1% of a team or less.”

With Financial Literacy Month winding down, the Seattle Seahawks quarterback and his superstar wife took the opportunity to surprise hundreds of middle school students in their city with savings accounts to teach them a valuable lesson about investing and the value of money. A new innovation hub and co-working space has opened its doors in downtown Seattle. Microsoft will partner with Black Girls Code and Technology Access Foundation through a $500,000 investment in order to bring more STEM learning opportunities to students of color in Seattle , it announced last week. Microsoft will help Kimberly Bryant’s non-profit, Black Girls Code, establish a Seattle chapter. Black Girls Code was established to “provide young and pre-teen girls of color opportunities to learn in-demand skills in technology and computer programming.” It introduces programming and tech to a new generation. Seattle, WA-based Starbucks plans to lay off 1,100 corporate support employees as part of an effort to streamline operations and improve efficiency. On Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol announced in a news release that those affected will receive notice on Feb. 25. The decision comes after senior leaders began “evaluating the role, structure, and size” of the coffee chain’s global corporate teams in January. “I recognize the news is difficult.
