Keke Palmer Says She Learned To Live Under Her Means After Filing For Bankruptcy At 18 — 'I Got A Toyota Right Now In My Driveway'

Keke Palmer is more wise with her earnings after filing for bankruptcy in her early adult years. The Illinois native, born in Harvey but raised in Robbins, entered into the industry as an actor at the tender age of 9 years old. She snagged her first role in the film “Barbershop 2: Back in Business” (2004) and was later featured in “Madea’s Family Reunion” (2006) as Nikki before landing her first lead role in “Akeelah and the Bee” (2006), reports US Weekly. For many child stars, navigating the industry is a journey, and Palmer had the backing of her parents throughout the highs and lows. They took the step of hiring a business manager when she was 12. “That has helped me immensely,” she said during the Building Wealth Today for Tomorrow Financial Empowerment Summit held on Oct. 12, 2024, at the UIC Forum in Chicago, IL. Despite the guidance of a business manager, Palmer still found herself in financial troubles. When she was between 18 and 19 years old, she filed for bankruptcy. “I...

Mark Cuban Predicts NBA Players Will Land Billion-Dollar Contracts And Outearn Team Owners — 'There Is No League Without Them'

Mark Cuban believes it’s only a matter of time before an NBA player signs a $1 billion contract. The Dallas Mavericks’ minority owner shared his thoughts during an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast. When Sharpe asked if he thinks the world will ever see such a monumental deal, Cuban responded, “Yeah, but that presumes that TV keeps on going up the way it is. But, you’re going to see a hundred million dollars a year here shortly. Because if the TV contract has 10% increases in the cap, [which is] the way the CBA works. You saw Steph [Curry] had 62 million for one year… and it’s going to go crazier.”   The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) defines the employment guidelines and agreements for all professional basketball players in the National Basketball Association, per its website . It also outlines the rights and responsibilities of the NBA Clubs, the NBA, and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). Sharpe’s question was prompted by 25-year-old...

CEO Arian Simone Announces Dismissal Of Lawsuit That Prevented Fearless Fund’s Support For Black Women Entrepreneurs

The lawsuit preventing Fearless Fund from allocating funding to Black women entrepreneurs has been settled. As AFROTECH™ previously reported, Fearless Fund, currently led by founding partner Arian Simone, was sued by legal activist Edward Blum and his American Alliance for Equal Rights group. In the lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court in Atlanta, GA, in August 2023, the investment firm had been accused of “explicit racial exclusion” for creating a grant program that was “open only to Black females,” with the lawsuit alleging that it went against the Civil Rights Act of 1866. Blum and the group flagged Fearless Fund’s efforts of providing $20,000 in grants and mentorship directed to Black women due to a violation of “race neutrality,” The Washington Post reports. Initially, U.S. District Judge Thomas W. Thrash was in favor of the Fearless Fund, which at the time had been guided by Simone and COO Ayana Parsons, who later stepped down from her role in April 2024. View this post...

Michael B. Jordan Takes Inspiration From His Mother's Lupus Journey By Making Health Resources More Accessible In Black Communities

For the second year, actor Michael B. Jordan and flavored bottled water company Propel aim to bridge the gap between resources and access for people striving to regain control of their health. Last year in partnership with Propel, Jordan used his influence and Propel’s funds to equip the WalkGood LA studio — a space for yoga enthusiasts of all levels — with the resources needed to establish its presence in the health and wellness industry. “We were looking for different organizations in LA, wanted to kick it off in Los Angeles, and open up their first physical space, The WalkGood Yard. This space enabled [WalkGood LA] to expand their programs and classes in a central location, providing the facility and location to grow their brand and reach the community at large,” Jordan said in an interview with AFROTECH™. “This year, we’re creating spaces for other organizations. Instead of going to them, we’re opening under one roof, creating a rotating space for up to 16 organizations to come...
