Bobby Brown reveals the one business move he wish he had implemented at the start of his career. Brown’s rise to fame was through New Edition, which also included members Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ralph Tresvant, and Ronnie DeVoe. The group infamously got their start in the industry after signing a $500 deal with musician and producer Maurice Starr, as AFROTECH™ previously told you. Their hit singles include “Can You Stand the Rain” and “If It Isn’t Love.” Brown later went solo after being voted out of the group, launching a highly successful career that saw him sell over 12 million physical copies. The success of his sophomore album, “Don’t Be Cruel,” alone was enough to set him up for life. He also made several business moves that benefited his career, including his publishing deal, which was structured by his mother and management team. “I saw a lot of it, because my deal was situated in a way where I made dollars on each record, not pennies,” he said on the “Club Shay Shay”...
Colin Kaepernick hasn’t taken an NFL snap since 2017, but he’s never been idle. While the league may have shut its doors, Kaepernick has been steadily opening new ones, quietly constructing an empire grounded in justice, creativity, and economic power. His path since leaving the NFL hasn’t just been one of resistance. It’s been one of reinvention. Kaepernick’s legacy began to shift in 2016 when he took a knee to protest police brutality and racial injustice while playing for the San Francisco 49ers. The moment cost him a job in the NFL, but it cemented his voice as one of the most powerful in American public life. And instead of retreating, he leaned in, turning his influence into a platform for economic change and cultural ownership. Kaepernick has proven that social activism and wealth-building aren’t mutually exclusive through a broad portfolio of business ventures, investments, and creative initiatives. They can be mutually reinforcing. Colin Kaepernick’s Storytelling Journey...
A resource for minority-owned businesses may be impacted due to a new round of federal job cuts. Inc. reports new changes are underway at the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), which was first established in 1969 by former President Richard Nixon. Under former President Joe Biden’s administration alone, the MBDA helped provide 23,000 jobs and $3.2 billion in contracts to minority enterprises, the outlet notes. The Trump administration sent an email on April 17, 2025, stating that federal grants to the agency, which operated about 38 business centers, were being dismantled, as the administration believes the funding is “no longer consistent with the agency’s priorities and no longer serves the interest of the United States and the MBDA program.” President Donald Trump’s orders will be a drastic hit to many Black and other entrepreneurs of color. Louisiana’s business center, which worked with hundreds of businesses, was told the MBDA is “repurposing its funding allocations...

Eleven days into “Mafiathon 2,”...
If you’re a big music fan, you’ve certainly heard your fair share of Babyface tracks over the years. The multi-talented artist , who celebrated his 65th birthday back in April, has released more than two dozen chart-topping R&B classics over the course of his historic career, resulting in a staggering 13 Grammy Award wins. Even with all his success, Babyface’s massive net worth may be quite shocking to some listeners, since many artists from his generation have struggled to flip their musical highs into prudent financial investments . According to Celebrity Net Worth , Babyface touts a staggering nest egg of over $200 million, earned mostly through music royalties, producer credits and a few high-priced real estate ventures. Perhaps the most shocking aspect of Babyface’s massive wealth is the fact that his net worth was once halved following a contentious divorce in 2005. This means that the musician could have stacked millions more if it weren’t for losing a nine-figure sum in the...
