National Business League to Support a Million Black Businesses By 2025

As the country’s self-proclaimed oldest and largest trade group for Black businesses, the National Business League has announced new optimistic growth plans for the future that include building up one million Black businesses by the year 2025, according to Black Enterprise . After celebrating their 120th anniversary recently, the D.C.-based business advocacy group — founded by famous American educator Booker T. Washington — has recognized the importance of uplifting Black-led businesses during this time, Stupid Dope reports and is actively working to expand their reach. “Booker T. #BlackoutDay2020: Can Capitalism Save Our Community?

Economic solidarity within the Black community has always been touted as the answer to our liberation. Alongside banking Black and buying Black, today’s social media campaign, Blackout Day 2020, is another movement that aims to fight against economic injustice. Created by Calvin Martyr, founder of the Blackout Coalition , Blackout Day 2020 is a call for Black people to boycott spending their money for a full 24 hours in order to show the impact of our spending power. Comerica Bank and National Business League Pledge $1M to Support Black Businesses

As part of the union of companies creating funds to assist Black businesses impacted by COVID-19, Comerica Bank is making a move to pledge $1 million over the next four years to the National Business League. Booker T. Washington's National Business League Set to Go Digital With New $1.8M Platform

The National Business League is ready to go digital and lead the charge in helping Black businesses transition into the online business sector. The COVID-19 outbreak has forced many businesses to develop new online savvy models, and NBL is following suit. The NBL has raised $1.8 million from several national tech firms to create a digital platform for Black businesses’ digital needs. Black Enterprise reports that top investors were Computech CXL, a business enterprise technology firm and — MPS Group,  a manufacturing firm. Chairman of MPS Group, Charlie Williams feels honored to invest in a historic company that continues Booker T. Self-Driving Car Company Waymo Is Opening Its Factory In Detroit

Self-driving cars used to be something only found in sci-fi and superhero movies, but they’re quickly becoming a reality. Waymo, the self-driving car company owned by Alphabet, has announced it is opening a factory in Detroit. Waymo is partnering with American Axle & Manufacturing to repurpose an existing facility that will house the production of the company’s L4 autonomous vehicles. The factory is set to open later this year. “We wanted this facility to benefit from a location in southeast Michigan — the heart of the American automotive industry — and its strong talent base,” Waymo said in a blog post. The factory is set to bring more than 400 jobs to the Motor City, giving it the economic push that it needs. Detroit filed for bankruptcy more than five years ago, as it suffered from more than $18 billion of debt, according to NPR.
